We had a SAREX scheduled for Sat 09 November 2019. The weather was awful so we scrubbed our Plan "A" exercise and carried on with plan "B". We placed an ELT on the airport grounds and had our team members go find it. First off we completed a lesson on ground homing, explaining how the antenaes are placed on the vehicle. Then we explained how the homer works and how to set it up. After the lesson was over we had all our team members, individually take a homer and try to find the ELT. I'm very pleased to say, that all the team members found the ELT and they found it within 10 minutes. To all the team members who came out, thank you and you are all certified as ground homing specialists. Good job to all.
We had a great exercise with LASAR today. The plan was for us to send two aircraft up with a couple of LASAR spotters, but unfortunately the wind foiled us. None the less, we managed to do some ground homing with LASAR. The target was found and first on the scene procedures where carried out. Because of this we managed to re-qualify 11 of our members. LASAR learned something from us and we learned something from them. We hope to do at least one more joint exercise with LASAR this year. Thank you Zone #1 members for your continued support.
What a wonderful turnout for our exercise yesterday. It was absolutely great weather and we got a lot accomplished. We had two aircraft and each did two missions. The ELT was found and we managed to certify 1 spotter and re-certify 3 others. We also certified a pilot. That now gives us 3 certified pilots. Thank you all for a Wonderfull day and we will see you on Sat 06 Apr 19, when we do a joint exercise with LSARA. This will be a great day. What a wonderful group of volunteers we have in Lethbridge. See you next time.
What a great training day on Sat 23 Feb 19. We had a good turnout of members and some important training was done. Although we did not fly, we did some classroom work. We gave a tour of our new HQ building to the new members. We did some final equipment setup. We also had a look at our website and learned how to navigate it. Thank you all for a productive day. See you on Sat 09 Mar 19.
Thank you one and all for the excellent help yesterday. We had 12 people and 7 pickup trucks to aid in the move to our new headquarters building. What would have taken 2 days to do, we managed to finish in 5 hours. That includes the time to get everything up and running. So we were only off line for the morning. Thank you again everyone. Don't forget our SAREX scheduled for next Saturday, 09 Feb 19. When you are on the calendar page, click the event, then click the RSVP button. Fill in the form and send. That will let Sandi know who is or is not coming without following an endless email string. That will help with our crewing. Thanks.
Hi everyone. Welcome to another year of Search and Rescue. We have a new executive this year. Sandi is the Zone Commander. Al is the Training Officer and Bernie is the Zone representative. We have also posted the new training schedule online. Please check it out on a regular basis, as things can change. We also will be moving into our new training facility at Southern Aero. The building is on the west side of their hangar and access will be through a coded man gate. There will be no access to the headquarters building through Southern Aero’s hangar. We are planning a moving party for the first Saturday of February. The more bodies we have, the easier will be the work. (We are waiting for the contract to be signed). Thanks all in advance. We will do our usual one exercise per month with a scheduled weather day. The only exception is that we will do two exercises per month for July, August and September. The reason being is that we have found ourselves being weathered out quite frequently during the winter, so hopefully we can make up the lost days during the summer. Thanks again.
Hi everyone. Please look at the calendar. We have some changes. Our plan is to do all our classroom work during the winter to get that out of the way. The scheduled day on the 10th of November will be a spotters classroom day. Lunch will be provided for all the classroom days. After lunch, if the weather is cooperative, we will fly. We will have 2 aircraft available. December the 8th will be the navigators classroom time, with flights in the afternoon and Jan 12th will be the pilots classroom time, with flights in the afternoon. Thank you all.
Hi all. I have made some changes to the Website, mostly formatting and hopefully more user friendly. I have added some new pages to the site and it will be a good reference in the future. Please make use of the Website and if you have any good relevant search and rescue stories, please pass them on to me and I will include them in the blog. When you receive an email reminder about an upcoming SAREX, please reply to it, so we can plan the day and set up the crews. Thanks.
Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a great season and are ready for a year filled with training. Speaking of training we have a meeting on 13 Jan 18 at the headquarters building. We will be having our AGM, election of Officers, a gift exchange and finally some spotter training. The 2018/19 training schedule has been posted in the Calendar tab on the left side of all pages. Please use it to plan your schedule. When you are sent an email reminder, please RSVP to it so we can pan our training and crews. Thank you all and let's have some fun.
This cutie happened to park right in front of our new Office. This is a Cormorant. They visited us on Thursday 16 Nov 2017. Always nice to see our partners.
